Mina Yu Ensemble:
A Day and Life Sessions

The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts

$15 - $30

“Yu is something special: she is one of the most elegant and tasteful pianists I’ve heard for some time. Her bright and melodic solos give the album real distinction.” — Eric Myers, The Australian

After seven years in New York City, Mina has become one of Melbourne’s most distinctive jazz voices, drawing inspiration from both classical impressionists and modern masters.

Fresh from a nomination for the 2025 Australian Music Prize and the APRA Art Music Award for Best Performance, Mina brings her acclaimed project A Day and Life to The Count’s – a collection of pieces that turn daily rituals into moments of stillness, wonder, and groove. Inspired by Ravel, Satie, Bill Evans, The Beatles, and Sting, Mina’s music shimmers with cinematic beauty and emotional honesty.

Having performed at Hamer Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre, and Carnegie Hall, and collaborated with artists such as Fem Belling, Women of Soul, and Tae Woo Kim (G.O.D), Mina’s performances are known for their poise, warmth, and quiet intensity.

“There’s a remarkable cohesiveness and conviction to this music, a sense that Yu has wrested indelible beauty from the everyday.” — Des Cowley, Rhythms Magazine

“I was instantly blown away by her playing, her crisp sound and the way that she seemed to be lost ‘in the zone’ while performing.” — Nikolas Fotakis, Australianjazz.net

Join Mina Yu and her ensemble for an evening of evocative jazz storytelling – where each note invites you to pause, breathe, and rediscover the beauty hidden in life’s simplest moments.
